Luorange: A Mental Breakdown
Both Tjay and Sean’s responses are not much as what I expected - yes, I had a kind of expectation of what responses I would get, and I did (to some extent) guide my interviewees to focus more on the negative side of remote learning’s impact. And finally, in the text interview with Luorange, I got the answer I expected.
To Luorange, the experience of studying remotely was awful. “I rescheduled my time of eating and sleeping and the whole thing was really chaotic.” She usually woke up at 3 or 4 pm and went to sleep at about 7 am, and she’d eat whenever she felt hungry. Even though, she still lost about 5 kilograms of weight due to the reversed daily schedule and sleep deprivation. She felt isolated, feeling that “no real human talked to [her]”, and had to hang out with friends and family to feel alive.
Though Luorange’s response was exactly what I expected to get, it still surprised me because Luorange appeared to be extremely optimistic. She shared lots of funny moments of her life during the pandemic on her social media and every time when I talked to her, she appeared to be very happy. I did not expect that she had also struggled so much with remote learning, and that her experience is so similar to mine (for example, I also lost about 3 kilograms of weight during that time).
